Scottish Basket Hilt Backsword, Antiqued Version

Hanwei’s Basket-Hilt Backsword is replicated from an original in the collection of the Royal Armouries in England that dates from about 1760. It is likely that the blade of the original sword was made in Germany a century earlier and re-hilted as basket designs were refined. It has an unusual basket with twin engraved ”horned beastie” plaques and a blade with twin fullers running most of its length.

This reproduction of the sword features an antiqued finish. The hilt is crafted in stainless steel to minimize maintenance and is finished with a museum-quality patina. The blade is forged in high carbon steel and also lightly antiqued to promote authenticity. It has a wire-wrapped genuine ray skin handle and a cloth-covered leather basket liner. The scabbard is leather covered.

Made by Hanwei.
