Wall Decoration: Wooden Viking Mammen Axe
This beautiful wooden wall decoration is a faithful reproduction of a Viking axe found during the excavation of a man’s chamber tomb near Mammen, Jutland (Denmark).
The Mammen style
… one of the six known Norse art styles, prevailed from the middle of the 10th century to the early 11th century. This particular Viking Age style is characterized by the emergence of plant motifs, which came to join the traditional animal and human representations. The influence of other European cultures slowly started to increase. The symmetrical patterns, common to previous styles, gradually lost ground.
