Viking Axe, Hand-Forged Steel, Type B
Whether it was used for chopping down trees, building ships, houses and furniture, or wielded in battle, the axe was an indispensable and versatile tool for the Vikings. The shape and size of the axe heads was determined by their intended use. There were also elaborately adorned axes that were more of a status symbol and were often buried alongside their owner. Today, Viking axes are popular collectors’ items, and often wielded in films, TV series and video games to convey the image of the wild and fearless Vikings.
Shapewise, the head of the Viking axe we offer here is classified as a Petersen type B. The blade of this bearded axe is hand-forged from high carbon steel, and the handle is made of sturdy ash wood.
Please note that this early medieval axe is not a battle ready weapon. It is primarily designed as a collector’s or decoration/display piece and is by no means suited for combat reenactment. Besides its quality as a collectible, it is also perfectly suited as a prop, e.g. to complete your costume, and will make your transformation into a proud warrior just perfect.
