Beskrivning
Korintisk hjälm är en hjälmtyp från antikens Grekland och har fått sitt namn från stadsstaten Korinth. Hjälmen var tillverkad i brons, vilket i sin senare form täckte hela huvudet och nacken, med springor för ögon och mun. En större kam skyddade nacken. Hjälmen bars exempelvis av de grekiska hopliterna.
Troligen (baserat på konstnärliga och arkeologiska bevis) den mest populära hjälmmodellen under antiken. Den ersattes så småningom av den mer öppna trakiska hjälmen samt även den Chalsidiska hjälmen och Piloshjälmen. Detta då dessa var betydligt billigare att producera samt att de inte hindrade bärarens synfält eller hörsel. Den korintiska hjälmens stora nackdel var just att synfältet och hörselförmågan påverkades negativt av dess slutna form.
Ett flertal exemplar av korintiska hjälmar har påträffats vid arkeologiska utgrävningar, och de är vanligt förekommande på antikt grekiskt lergods.
Italo-Corinthian Helmet with Plume, Black, Adorned
The Corinthian originated in the 7th C. before Chr. and is the typical picture of the greek helmet to this day. It’s origins are in the city of Corinth. It quickly became a fixed part of the greek Hoplite armour and its use extendet as far as Italy, where, with a few modifications, it became one of the more popular helmets for the troops of the roman republic.
The replica of the Italo-Corinthian helmet is made of black coloured steel and features the typical form of this helmet, consisting of a long front end, nosescreen and bent neck protection.
It is richly adorned: there are mythical creatures on the sides (by the looks of it a mix of horse and snake) and a portrait of a woman’s head on the forehead, made of brass.
The scope of delivery contains a big, natural colored plume, which is fastened with metal sheets on the helmet. It also contains a padded cap.
